City of Reno issued the following announcement on August 12.

The City of Reno is pleased to announce the hire of Trina Magoon as the new Director of Utility Services. Magoon began serving in her new position on Monday, August 9, 2021.

The Director of Utility Services position was created to provide the citizens of Reno with expert and more direct oversight in the field of water, sewer, flood, and drainage management. This position is responsible for project management oversight and administration of various water and wastewater utility operations and functions including water production, water distribution, flood protection, sewer and drainage collection. Magoon will also serve on the City’s Management Team.

Magoon has nearly 30 years experience in northern Nevada and across the Southwest focusing on water resources, municipal infrastructure, and community development.

“Trina joined our team in November 2020 as the Assistant Public Works Director for Environmental Engineering with an extensive background in water resources, municipal infrastructure and community development,” City Manager Doug Thornley said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge to this position, is a renowned expert in the field, and we are thrilled about her new role with the City.”

Magoon received her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno and has since played an integral design and/or management role on many of the region’s notable projects including ReTRAC, the SouthEast Connector / Veterans Parkway, Washoe County’s largest data center complex, and City of Reno City-Wide Sanitary Sewer Master Planning.

“I am honored to be the first person chosen for this important role,” Magoon said. “Stormwater and sewer systems are vital to our well being and economy. I am dedicated to ensuring the citizens of Reno benefit from the best systems we can provide.”

In her spare time, Magoon enjoys hiking with her two dogs, biking, and traveling around the globe.
