Health District - Air Quality Division Looking for Applicants for the Air Pollution Control Hearing Board

Washoe County recently issued the following announcement on September 07.

The Washoe County Health District – Air Quality Management Division (AQMD) is looking for individuals to join the Air Pollution Control Hearing Board and serve the community regarding air pollution matters.  The Air Pollution Control Hearing Board is a fair and unbiased panel that hears appeals when a negotiated resolution to an air pollution complaint cannot be achieved.

The Air Pollution Control Hearing Board consists of seven members who are not employees of the state of Nevada or any of its political subdivisions and are recommended by the Air Quality Management Division and approved by the District Board of Health. One member of the board shall be an attorney, one member shall be a Nevada licensed Engineer, and one member shall be a Nevada licensed contractor.  The remaining members are at-large.

Interested individuals may apply to join the Air Pollution Control Hearing Board by completing the application available here, or on the Air Pollution Control Hearing Board webpage (Link here). “The Air Pollution Control Hearing Board plays a critical role in ensuring that the Air Quality Management Division is held accountable for its actions and decisions,” said Francisco Vega, Division Director for AQMD. “We encourage community members passionate about air pollution who have expertise in that area to apply. This is a great way for the general public to partner with our staff to ensure that air pollution matters are addressed fairly.”

Board members are not compensated as they are volunteers. Terms for each board member can range from one to three years.

The Air Quality Management Division (AQMD) implements clean air solutions that protect the quality of life for the citizens of Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County through community partnerships along with programs and services such as air monitoring, permitting and compliance, planning, and public education.
