City of Sparks issued the following announcement on September 13.

The following are highlights from the September 13, 2021, Sparks City Council Meeting.

Announcements, Presentations, Recognition Items and Items of Special Interest

City Manager Neil Krutz announced a vacancy on the Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission for a partial term ending June 30, 2022. Applicants must be Sparks residents or hold a valid Sparks business license. Applications will be accepted until October 1, 2021, at 5:00 pm. Council proclaimed September as Hunger Action Month and heard a presentation from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Council heard a Smoke-Free Truckee Meadows presentation from the Nevada Cancer Coalition.

General Business

Council accepted a $52,928.21 Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant to provide the Emergency Medical Services program with equipment and paramedic school tuition with matching funds of $4,811.66.

Council accepted a $58,000.00 Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) stipend grant from Nevada’s Child Care and Development Program and the Children’s Cabinet for reimbursement of Small Wonders Preschool staff payroll.

Council approved a $508,717.00 construction contract with Express Sewer and Drain for the Sanitary Sewer Cured In-Place Pipe project.

Council approved a $399,025.00 design services contract with Atkins for the North Truckee Drain alternatives analysis and engineering design.

Council approved a Fiscal Year 2022 expenditure of up to $841,400.00 for contract labor for parks, streets, drains, fleet maintenance, facility maintenance and public works administration, utilizing a joinder provision with a State of Nevada contract.

Council approved a payment of $430,565.00 to Renown Health Foundation representing the City of Sparks portion of regionally shared expenditures related to the expansion of hospital services capacity in response to the COVID-19 patient surge.
