City of Reno to present updated redistricting maps to the community

Genbusiness009

City of Reno issued the following announcement on October 21.

Residents will be able to hear a presentation of final redistricting maps during a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. The public must register for the meeting in order to attend.

Redistricting is a process of redrawing the boundaries of the five wards that make up the City of Reno. Every 10 years following the US Census, the wards must be redrawn so that each ward is substantially equal in population. Based on new Census data and using the redistricting principles adopted by the Reno City Council, the draft maps were first presented for public comment on Thursday, October 7.

“We appreciate everyone who has attended our community meetings, provided input online, and talked with us during our drop-in sessions and community meetings. The comments we received are helping to guide revisions in preparation of the final map options,” Calli Wilsey, Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives Administrator, said.

Following the October 26 presentation to the community, the final maps will move forward to the City Council on November 10, 2021.

Members of the community who have input on the final maps once they are released can further submit comments by:

  • Emailing Redistricting@Reno.Gov and PublicComment@Reno.Gov;
  • Submitting the online form at Reno.Gov/PublicComment;
  • Leaving a voicemail at 775-393-4499; or
  • Attending the City Council meeting on November 10.
Community members can view the draft redistricting maps, find Zoom links for upcoming meetings, view past meeting materials and recordings, and learn more about the process at Reno.Gov/Redistricting. The final map options will also be posted to this site next week.
