Mayor Schieve releases statement on the passing of Norm Dianda

Reno

City of Reno issued the following announcement on November 1.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve has issued the following statement regarding the passing of Norm Dianda:

On behalf of the entire City of Reno—our Reno City Council, employees and residents—we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Reno icon Norm Dianda.

Norm had such a jovial personality, and I loved the way he laughed. His great sense of humor was matched with an even greater desire to help others. He was such a pillar of our community, always giving back and doing what he could to employ residents or donate to causes close to his heart.

Norm will forever be an integral part of our infrastructure. No matter where you look, you’ll likely see one of his many great contributions to our city. From the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center to the airport and several of our local roads and highways, Norm helped build this city out of his love and passion for Reno.

One project he was especially passionate about and proud of was the construction of the new Virginia Street Bridge, which forever changed our downtown landscape for the better. Norm was eager to be involved in just about every aspect of construction. His excitement to bring our residents a beautiful new bridge that preserved the rich and distinguished history of the former one is something I will never forget.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. We will miss you terribly, Norm.
