City of Reno to receive $500,000 national arts grant

Reno

City of Reno recently issued the following announcement.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced American Rescue Plan (ARP) grants totaling more than $20 million to 66 local arts agencies for subgranting to help the arts and cultural sector recover from the pandemic. Reno is honored to make the list, receiving $500,000 from NEA, nearly double from what was allocated to the city from NEA CARES Act subgranting in 2020.

Reno-based arts organizations are encouraged to apply for grant funding early next year; funding will be distributed during the 2022 calendar year. Grant funding will be used to save jobs and fund operations and facilities, health and safety supplies, and marketing and promotional efforts to encourage attendance and participation in our local arts.

“We are extremely proud to be the only Nevada entity receiving funds this year from NEA for subgranting,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “We’ve seen how art can make a difference throughout our city by creating a sense of place and community, and there is an incredible economic impact as well. These funds are greatly appreciated and will be used to support arts and culture organizations around Reno.”

“The NEA’s significant investment in local arts agencies, including the City of Reno is a key element in helping the arts and culture sector recover and reopen, while ensuring American Rescue Plan funding is distributed equitably,” said Ann Eilers, NEA’s acting chair. “These grants recognize the vital role of local arts agencies and will allow them to help rebuild local economies and contribute to the well-being of our communities.”

This is the second of three installments of the NEA’s American Rescue Plan funding. Last April, the NEA announced that 40 percent of its $135 million in ARP funding would be allocated to 62 state, jurisdictional, and regional arts organizations for regranting through their respective programs. The third installment of APR funding to arts organizations to support their own operations will be announced in early 2022.
