City of Reno recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Reno would like to provide the media and public with an update related to the Wednesday, December 8, 2021 Reno City Council Agenda.
Two abandonment items related to the Neon Line are scheduled to be heard during the December 8 meeting:
- Right-of-Way abandonment associated with West Second Street and Church Lane
- Alley abandonment associated with Ralston Street and West Fifth Street
Additionally, the City of Reno will host a Neon Line Community Meeting on Monday, January 10, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the National Automobile Museum. The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public an opportunity to ask questions related to the Neon Line Development Agreement and the development itself.
“We understand the public has questions about the land development process and the various tools that are used to redevelop urban property,” Reno City Manager Doug Thornley said. “So I’ve asked our staff to organize a public forum on January 10th, when we can spend more time with our community to discuss how projects proposed in the downtown core are evaluated. We look forward to hearing what our residents have to say.”
Due in part to the City’s many noticing deadlines and other public meeting timelines, the community meeting was not able to be held in December.
The two abandonment agenda items will be re-noticed for a City Council meeting after the January 10, 2022 Community Meeting.
More About the January 10, 2022 Community Meeting:
During the October 27, 2021 City Council meeting, for Item F.3 – Ordinance Adoption (Neon Line Development Agreement), Council requested that a community meeting be held to provide the public an opportunity to learn more about the agreement and the development.
The January 10, 2022 meeting will be a hybrid meeting, meaning the public will be able to attend either in person or virtually, to ensure that all of our residents have an opportunity to participate.

Residents can also register to participate virtually by Zoom.
Community members may submit questions before the meeting date to ensure the City/developer can provide thoughtful answers to questions raised, or where reasonable, include it in the presentation materials.
This meeting is envisioned to be a City-supported initiative with the developer’s representative involved in the discussion. Presentations will be limited to basic terms of the agreement and the desired outcomes related to the developer’s vision for the Neon Line, followed by a period for additional questions and answers. City staff will be available to discuss specific questions that may be asked by the public related to planning, zoning, and business licensing.
