Washoe County recently issued the following announcement.
Washoe County introduces a new way to connect with what’s happening in and around the county. “Washoe Life” is a new podcast dedicated to telling the stories of residents and life in Washoe County.
New episodes will be posted twice a month and are available on the Washoe County Newsroom and most audio streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.
The first episode launched this week with co-hosts Nancy Leuenhagen and Bethany Drysdale discussing holiday traditions. Special guest Jennifer Cole with the Washoe County Library joined to talk about holiday-themed books.
The next episode to air will feature a Sun Valley resident, Jason Merlis, who conducts weekly trash cleanups in his neighborhood, and Karma Box founder Grant Denton.
“We have been looking for a way to tell the more human side of life in Washoe County, and this podcast will allow us to do exactly that,” Leuenhagen, Washoe County Communications Director, said. “Some episodes will be funny, some will be serious, but all will be informative and further connect residents with their county government.”
Prior to working at Washoe County, Leuenhagen served as the Communications Manager and Public Information Officer at the Washoe County School District. Before moving to the Reno area with her husband and family in 2004, she spent nearly two decades as a broadcast journalist working as a TV news anchor and reporter and radio talk show host in the Midwest.
Drysdale is the Washoe County Communications Manager and worked for 15 years as Chief Communications Officer at the Nevada Division of Tourism. Her early career was in print journalism as Features Editor at the daily newspaper in Auburn, California.
Ideas for future episodes are happily accepted and can be submitted to Washoe311 by emailing washoe311@washoecounty.gov.
