Pulitzer Prize winner Kristen Go speaks at Reynolds School of Journalism’s 57th Annual Scripps Dinner

Journalism

City of Nevada recently issued the following announcement.

The Reynolds School of Journalism hosted the 57th Annual Scripps Dinner and Lecture on Monday, March 28, 2022. For the first time in two years, the event was held in person in the Joe Crowley Student Union at the University of Nevada, Reno. This year’s Scripps lecturer was Pulitzer Prize winner Kristen Go, the executive editor of news and initiatives at USA TODAY and a Reynolds School alumna.

Go gave an inspiring speech about her time at the Reynolds School, her career journey and her best advice to graduating seniors on becoming successful journalists. She stressed the importance of students making opportunities for themselves, being open to new opportunities and never forgetting to make opportunities for others.

“The work that journalists do matters,” Go said. “The truth matters.”

The Scripps Howard Foundation awarded scholarships to students Jacob Kostuchowski, Jaedyn Young, Aaron Gene Arao and Rachel Jackson, and Lynn Lazaro received the prestigious Scripps internship.

The dinner and lecture was held in honor of Edward "Ted" W. Scripps II, who graduated from the journalism program at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1952. The annual lectures were started by Scripps, who wanted students to hear directly from leaders in the journalism profession.
