Free "Spark the Imagination" Arts Workshop for Kids
Starting this Sunday, parents can bring their children to free "Spark the Imagination" workshops, a collaborative project between City of Sparks, The Generator, and the Washoe County Library System. The monthly workshops are held at the Sparks Library, 1125 12st Street, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, on the second Sunday each month.
The workshops, taught by local artists, will have a teaching portion and a hands-on activity. The class and materials are free. Pre-registration is recommended to have enough materials and space. The registration can be found with all the class details at cityofsparks.us/imagination.

July 10 - Fabric Printing
Multimedia visual artist Jessi Janusee will be sharing stories of her works, including her current focus, the Immigrant Aide Print Project, where Janusee creates block-printed, natural dyed artworks that explore traditional floral prints from various countries.
August 14 - Soft Sculpture
Soft sculpture and textile artist Lina Liz will be sharing her work as an installation artist, and guiding participants in a multimedia puppet building activity.
September 11 - LED Artwork
Erin St. Blaine is a wearable tech artist, educator, professional mermaid, and fire performer who will be talking about her creative work combining costuming and LED lights. She will be leading participants through a LED-lit greeting card crafting activity.
October 9 – Zine Making
Ray Frost is a nonbinary artist making comics, zines, and screen prints in the Northern Nevada high desert. They aim to tell the stories they needed to hear growing up in the zine series “How Did This Happen???” Participants will be guided through making their own zine, a small, artistic book focused on self-expression, using 2D multimedia techniques.
November 13 – Ceramics
Jasmine Barber-Winter works with ceramics, fiber, and multimedia. In recent years, she has been focused on developing freeform crochet, freeform embroidery, and woodfire ceramics. In this workshop, participants will be guided in making their own small vessel in air-dry clay.
