WCSD Trustees to Discuss
Superintendent’s Entry Plan, Legislature, Staffing
As part of our ongoing commitment to keep media partners and the community apprised of important issues in the Washoe County School District (WCSD), please see the information below regarding the August 9 meeting of the WCSD Board of Trustees.
The meeting will be held at the WCSD Administration Building on Tuesday, August 9 beginning at 2 p.m. The building is located at 425 E. Ninth Street in Reno.
At this regular public meeting, Trustees are scheduled to discuss:
Superintendent Susan Enfield’s entry plan, “A New Chapter for WCSD.” This plan outlines specific and intentional strategies while focusing on three priorities:
- Getting back to basics—ALL students are known, challenged and supported to succeed
Building trust—strong relationships with families and community.
- Creating a healthy, supportive and resilient school system—ALL staff are valued, engaged and successful.
- This item is for presentation and discussion only.
- As is the case nationwide, there is a shortage of certified educators in Washoe County.
- The District has employed a variety of strategies to address these shortages and will provide an update on those efforts and the status of certified vacancies for the 2022-23 School Year.
- This item is for presentation and discussion only.
- Trustees may ask the Superintendent and staff to research possible proposals such as student and staff supports, increased funding, educator licensure, increased student safety resources and/or review of statewide mandates for WCSD’s Bill Draft Request.
- The Board may choose not to sponsor a bill for the 2023 Nevada Legislative Session.
