Celebrate the history of Sparks during the Sparks Art Walk on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Visitors are invited to walk through Sparks’ history during a 45-minute guided interactive tour featuring historic locations such as the Sparks Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, Glendale School House, Chinese in Nevada Monument and Rail Car Display. Tours start at Lillard Park at 4:15, 5:15, and 6:15 p.m. This month, the City is partnering with the Sparks Heritage Museum and Cultural Center whose mission is to preserve historic and cultural education for current and future generations. The museum will be offering free admission during the art walk.
The Depot Gallery is hosting the photographic exhibit “Drag the West” by Sam Roblin from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit is a collection of live performance photographs featuring prominent drag queens in the Reno and Portland community that uses fragmented moments, portraits, blur and movement to visually represent the vibrance and electricity of a local drag performance.
Docent led tours of Sparks’ commissioned art will begin from Lillard Park at 5 and 6 p.m. The 45-minute tours cover six city blocks along Victorian Square. Visitors may also tour on their own by scanning a QR code on each piece of art to learn more about the artists.
Self-guided art tours include exhibits at the Depot Gallery, Sparks Heritage Museum and various restaurants and bars featured as part of the Sierra Arts Galleries On VIC program. Local artist exhibitions include Engine 8 featuring Dale Slingland; O’Skis featuring Naomi Di Vine; Cantina Los Tres Hombres featuring Lauren Mari Hufft; Packs and Pints featuring Nathanael Kunhne; and Pinon Bottle Company featuring Jennifer Charboneau.
Starting in October, the Art Walk will continue each third Thursday with condensed activities. For more information, visit www.SparksArtWalk.com.
