The City of Sparks has hired Mark Lawson as its new Fire Chief. Chief Lawson’s employment contract was approved during the November 28, 2022 Sparks City Council meeting.
He is the City’s first externally recruited Fire Chief in Sparks’ history and comes with 32 years of fire suppression experience, and a background in both fire prevention and law enforcement with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
“I believe his vast experience makes him an excellent choice to lead the Sparks Fire Department forward,” said Sparks City Manager Neil Krutz. “I expect his experience and energy to serve us well internally and externally with our regional, state, and federal government partners.”
Chief Lawson was born and raised in Sparks, making his appointment a professional return to his hometown. He will be officially sworn in during the December 12, 2022 Sparks City Council meeting.
“I truly consider this the single highest honor and most definitely the pinnacle in my career to serve as the City of Sparks’ new fire chief, especially in my hometown where I was born and raised.” Chief Lawson said. “I am so grateful for this opportunity and truly look forward to doing great things in my new capacity as we continue to provide the highest level of fire department emergency and non-emergency services.”
