The City of Reno Senior Citizen Advisory Committee, in partnership with Reno Arts and Culture, will honor the creativity of Reno’s Seniors with the Second Annual Senior Artists Exhibit and Show at the historic McKinley Arts & Culture Center located at 925 Riverside Drive in Reno. The exhibit will be on display throughout Older Americans Month, which is celebrated in May.

Individuals age 60 and older are invited to submit entries for the Senior Artists Exhibit and Show on April 17, 18, and 19 at McKinley Arts & Culture Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The gallery space is programmed for the public and all artwork must beappropriate for this setting.

All types of artistic media will be considered for display. The gallery is best suited for two-dimensional works and small three-dimensional works that can be placed on pedestals. Paintings, photography, drawings, or prints must be framed with a back wire.

“A call has gone out to Seniors to put their creativity caps on,” Paco Lachoy, Chairman of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee said. “Art is many things from painting, printmaking, crafting, needlepoint, crochet, sculpting, pottery, or jewelry making. The Committee is looking forward again to showcasing the creativity of our Seniors.”

The exhibit will be on display and open to the public from April 25 to June 2, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the McKinley East and the West Gallery at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center, with an artist reception held May 4 from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Last year’s event was extremely successful with 54 participating seniors and over 120 included artworks at the first event of its kind to McKinley Arts and Culture,” said Megan Berner, City of Reno Arts & Culture Manager. “We were amazed at the exhibit and the participation which created the largest display McKinley Arts and Culture has hosted.”

Information about the exhibit and show can be heard on the We Are Community radio program every Tuesday at 9 a.m. on KGPF 93.7 and found under Older Americans Month at Reno.gov/Senior.
