Washoe County School District issued the following announcement on November 9.
The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees has selected Adam Mayberry to serve as representative of District F. The unanimous decision was made following interviews and discussion at a public meeting this morning.
Mayberry will replace Jacqueline Calvert who vacated her at-large seat in September after moving from her district. District F covers the eastern part of the WCSD.
“I want to congratulate Adam Mayberry and express our sincere thanks to all of the candidates who submitted applications to serve on our Board of Trustees,” said Board President Dr. Angie Taylor. “This was a difficult decision for all of us, as each of the candidates was highly qualified and dedicated to public service. As a Board, we are eager to move forward together in the important business of running our school district, and we welcome Adam to join us in supporting our students, staff members, and families in our educational mission.”
“As the parent of two students in the District, I know how vital WCSD’s educational mission is,” said Mayberry. “I look forward to collaborating with my fellow trustees as we work to support our District family. Working in concert with the community and gathering input of our community members will also be a crucial part of our work. I consider this a wonderful honor as well as a huge responsibility, and I look forward to serving our entire community as a member of the WCSD Board of Trustees.”
Mayberry is a native Nevadan who has worked for the City of Sparks and currently serves as the Communications Manager and Public Information Officer for Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. He earned his undergraduate degree in business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, and a master’s degree in political science at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Other candidates included Elvira Diaz and Jack Heinemann. The fourth finalist, Dr. John Gwaltney, removed his name from consideration for personal reasons during today’s meeting.
Mayberry was sworn into office following the selection and will participate in the 2 p.m. meeting of the Board of Trustees today.
