Washoe County School District issued the following announcement on November 17.

The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is marking American Education Week by honoring Education Support Professionals (ESPs). The important work of these classified employees—which include clerical and office staff members, bus drivers, nutrition service workers, teacher aides, interpreters, and clinical aides— has a tremendously positive impact on the District’s 62,000 students.

November 15-19 is American Education Week, which is set aside by the National Education Association to celebrate the outstanding contributions of teachers, education support professionals, and parents across the country who provide resources and support to help students succeed. As part of that observance, Education Support Professionals Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17.

“We applaud the hard work of our Education Support Professionals every day,” said WCSD Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill. “Since the start of the pandemic, their dedication has continued to make a critical difference for our students and staff members. Their support in all areas—from the school bus to the classroom to the lunchroom and the office—has provided crucial resources for our students as they have grappled with the effects of this difficult and challenging time in our community and our world. All of us are thankful for their hard work, and I commend their outstanding dedication to our students.”

“We are proud to play an important role in the Washoe County School District, and grateful for this recognition of our contribution,” said Lana Ball, president of Washoe Education Support Professionals. “Our employees work hard to support our students, families, and colleagues, and we hope everyone will take a moment to thank an Education Support Professional this week.”

Approximately 3,000 of the more than 8,000 employees of the Washoe County School District serve as Education Support Professionals.
