Three WCSD Seniors Win National Merit Scholarships

Scholar

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced that three high school seniors from the Washoe County School District (WCSD) have been awarded college- and university funded scholarships for the 2022-2023 school year. Officials from each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists of the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

The students were named as finalists in the competition for their accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. They were chosen from among 7,500 high school seniors who will receive scholarships worth nearly $28 million. Each student will receive between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Here are the names of the WCSD students who will receive these scholarships, the high schools from which they will graduate next month, and their chosen career fields:

Matthew R. Long, Galena High School, Chemical Engineering

Teagan Jane Serink, Damonte Ranch High School, Music Composition

Jacob T. Weber, Galena High School, Business
