Locals Stuff Two School Buses with Supplies to Support Students

The Washoe County School District (WCSD), the Salvation Army of Washoe County and the Rotary Club of Reno would like to thank the community and two local Walmart stores for their generosity in participating in “Stuff The Bus” events to benefit the students and teachers of WCSD.

Supplies donated during the events will benefit the school district’s Children in Transition (CIT) program, which provides support for students experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness—giving them the opportunity to achieve the same high-quality academic standards as any other student. The CIT program works to eliminate barriers to education and address issues such as transportation to school, nutrition, health services and the need for school supplies.

Remaining supplies will be distributed to students at WCSD’s Back to School Expo on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Reno Town Mall, located at the corner of South Virginia and West Peckham Lane. The Expo will also feature a job fair and provide families with information pertinent to the upcoming 2022-2023 school year regarding school meals, transportation, registration and more. All families can attend the Expo, where district staff is ready to help answer questions and offer resources to ensure students are prepared to start the new school year.

The district, Salvation Army, and the Rotary Club of Reno would like to extend a special thanks to the team at the Lemmon Valley Walmart for their work to arrange a donation of more than $7,000 worth of school supplies in addition to what was donated by community members shopping there.
