WCSD Trustees Discuss Facility Modernization Plan and Unveil New School Logo, Mascot

What: As part of our ongoing commitment to keep media partners and the community apprised of important issues in the Washoe County School District (WCSD), please see the information below regarding the most recent meeting of the WCSD Board of Trustees. Public comment was heard at this meeting.

Details:

The agenda for the Board meeting is available at https://go.boarddocs.com/nv/washoe/Board.nsf/Public.

•    The Board of Trustees heard a presentation on the progress and schedule for the district-wide Facility Modernization Plan (FMP). The Washoe County School District (WCSD) has hired CannonDesign to develop a long-term plan for prioritizing, scheduling and implementing improvement projects at schools. As CannonDesign develops this plan, it has scheduled public forums to gather community input about these improvements, which will expand educational opportunities for all Washoe County students and help support diverse communities for years in the future. Trustees held a public discussion following the presentation. For information about the Facility Modernization Plan, please visit www.washoeschools.net/fmp

•    Members of the Board saw the unveiling of the new logo and mascot for JWood Raw Elementary School – the Jaguars – currently being constructed in south Reno. The WCSD Office of Communications and Community Engagement worked with the incoming principal, incoming school community and members of JWood Raw’s family to select the mascot and logo for this new school. JWood Raw Elementary School will open its doors to students in fall 2023 and will relieve overcrowding in south Reno.

Here is the logo for JWood Raw Elementary School for your use:
