The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees has selected Alex Woodley to serve as representative of District E. The unanimous decision was made following interviews and discussion at a public meeting today.
Woodley will replace Dr. Angie Taylor, who was elected to the Nevada State Assembly last month. District E covers the northwestern part of the WCSD.
“I am honored to join the Board, and I look forward to the years to come as we help our students and teachers move forward,” said Woodley. “I owe so much to the public education system.”
In his letter of intent, Woodley wrote that he was raised in poverty by his grandmother, and was a Title I student, Welfare and Medicaid recipient as a child. He told trustees that he credits the public school system with providing him with the emotional support, social interactions, regular meals and services he needed to succeed. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned his bachelor’s degree in geography and urban development from the University of Nevada, Reno. He earned his master’s degree in management and leadership from Western Governors University earlier this year. Since 2004, Woodley has served as director of Parking & Code Enforcement for the City of Reno.
Woodley was sworn into office following his selection and will participate in the upcoming meeting of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, December 13. His term ends in January 2025.
Trustees heard public comment during and after the selection process.
They praised and thanked the other two finalists for the seat on the Board – Meghan Beyer and Kellie Crosby-Sturtz – for their extensive work and dedication to the community.
